Everyone who is registered and insured in Sweden is entitled to state dental care benefits from the year they turn 20.

This support aims to make dental care more accessible and encourage good oral health throughout life.

Children and young people are entitled to free dental care in Sweden up to and including the year they turn 19. This also applies toregular examinations and treatments - with some exceptions for specialist dental care

From the year you turn 20, the state dental care subsidy applies instead.

The general dental care allowance is a financial support from the Social Insurance Agency that you receive automatically every year. It is either SEK 300 or 600, depending on your age, and can be used for all dental care covered by the state subsidy - for example, examinations, preventive care and regular treatments.
The aim is to encourage regular dental visits and reduce the risk of major problems later on.

The grant is awarded annually on July 1, and you can save it for up to two years - which means you can have a maximum of SEK 600 or SEK 1 200 saved, depending on your age. If you haven't used it after two years, it is automatically replaced by a new amount.

You do not need to apply for the allowance - it is handled directly by your dentist and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, if the dentist is affiliated with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

- 20-23 years:SEK 600 per year

- 24-64 years: SEK 300 per year

- 65 years and older:SEK 600 per year
