What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an advanced orthodontic system that works as an alternative to traditional braces. Individually fitted aligners move the teeth step by step into the right position. Small tooth-coloured attachments can be fixed to some teeth to make the movements more efficient.
With the help of advanced 3D technology, a precise digital treatment plan is created, in which you can see a simulation of the expected end result right from the start.
How an Invisalign treatment works
1. Consultation – We make a first assessment of your teeth and discuss your needs and preferences.
2. Digital scan – A 3D scan of your teeth is taken to create a precise and individual treatment plan.
3. Making the aligners – Based on the plan, a series of clear, custom-made aligners is produced.
4. Treatment – You wear the aligners 20–22 hours a day and change to new aligners every 1–2 weeks, as instructed.
5. Follow-up – Regular check-ups with the dentist or orthodontist make sure the teeth are moving according to plan.
6. Retention – After the treatment you get a retainer that stops the teeth moving back.
Stabilising the result after treatment
Once the teeth have moved into their new position, it is important to stabilise the result. That is usually done with a thin metal wire bonded to the inside of the row of teeth, from canine to canine. For larger changes, a night guard may also be recommended to hold the teeth in place.
